Sierra Bates is Blackfeet and Cree. She lives in Spokane with her partner and fellow artist Ricky Sullivan (Ricky Bobby) and their son where she is in nursing school. Her goal is to work her way on up to becoming a doctor of nursing practice specializing in indigenous midwifery. She is also passionate about language revitalization in having worked with the Salish School of Spokane in teaching adult classes and leading a bilingual household. She is a mixed medium artist and has also shown her acrylic and watercolor work in galleries in the surrounding Spokane area. She ties in to her work modern cultural themes of intergenerational trauma and pain, foundational traditional beliefs, honoring ancestors and emotional expression. In the art contributed to Teton she hopes to inspire others to feel beautiful in being who they are and to use parts of these designs in their own art of regalia building.
