Make a Bolo Tie with your favorite Native American-designed ornament!
At 3" long, the Teton Christmas Ornaments are very versatile and can be made into a bolo tie in just a few easy steps using a few tools and materials.
Materials needed:
A bolo tie clip
Bolo tie tips
Braided leather cord
Super glue
Rotary tool with cutting discs and sander attachments
Black Sharpie
Step #1 - Assemble your materials
Teton has a large selection of ornaments in a variety of designs that capture the beauty of the natural world and our Native culture. These versatile ornaments can also double as pendants for necklaces or be proudly displayed on your dance regalia.
Bolo tie parts can be sourced online or from your local leather supply shop.
A strong super glue that can work metal to metal.
Safety glasses and a mask should always be used when operating power tools, especially for this project as you will be cutting and sanding the metal ornament ring down.
Step #2 - Cutting off the metal ring
While wearing your safety glasses and mask, carefully cut off the metal ring with the rotary tool. Switch to the sander bit and carefully sand down the metal to meet the figure's shape.
Step #3 - Color the exposed metal
Using a Sharpie, color the exposed metal to match the border color of the ornament.
Step #4 - Glue the bolo clip to the ornament
Position your bolo clip on the back of the ornament and make sure that you are happy with the placement. On some ornaments, cutouts in the design may show the bolo clip on the back side. You can hide this by coloring the bolo clip with the Sharpie before gluing.
Step #5 - Run your cord through the clip and glue on the bolo tips
Wear it, style it, or gift it!
